Packing for Washington
We are heading to Washington in June and we have scheduled a few stops along the way. Eugene Oregon is one that we have been anxiously waiting to get back to. The sisters are going to be one of our first stops before we head on to Washington and check out some of the schools up there for Glass Blowers.
When we were looking for a hotel to stay at I discovered a place that actually showed you the comforter sets that they would be using in your room and if you wanted something different like a different pattern or style you could choose form 4 different sets and they would put it in your room before you got there.
I found out later on … last night .. that we are not going to be able to choose or stay anywhere nice because we were invited by family to stay at their house. :/ w00t. That will save some money but that is not what I had in mind for a “vacation” trip to one of my favorite places to visit. MAybe someday we will get to take a vacation that we want to take.
Green Shopping
We have been doing a ton of shopping lately for camping gear. We are getting “geared up” for a trip that we have been dying to take all winter. Eagle Valley! Eagle Valley is a quaint little, off the beaten path, camping site that you can drive up to and park for a couple days of fun, camping and hiking. The views are pretty breath taking as well.
I have some pictures from a friends trip up there but none that are digital in nature. (I don’t have them to post on here and show you … yet) When we go in a couple weeks I will be sure and snap a million or two of the scenery up there.
You can read more about the trip and the adventures in camping on Earth Articles where we will be doing mots of our camping and hiking adventure type posting from now on. I finally got the site to where I want it to be so it’s time to use it!!
If anyone is interested and you are going to be in the Las Vegas Area, and you would like to go on a camping trip feel free to use the Contact Us form on Earth Articles to get in touch with ay one of us. We know a ton of great places to go and all the ones to avoid on GP!
Green RV Work
I did a ton of work on the RV today. Yesterday I decided that I would rip out the kitchen area and redo it today. So that is just what I did. I worked on it for about 4 hours setting up everything piece by piece so that it would come out perfect. I am not the greatest wood worker in the world anymore but I can hold my own. Every time I work on that thing for a few hours it seems like I gain a ton or pain. I need to dip into my medical supplies cabinet for some pain relief.
I think that this is turning out to be a great project. I like that we are using all of the old stuff to redo the inside so that we are not creating waste. We did have to buy a little here and there like the lights that where non existent but all in all we are doing pretty good at staying green with the whole thing.
RV Wiring 12v and 110v
I cant believe that we were so close to getting the power working in the RV this weekend and we only needed a few wires to get it all connected. I was looking through the box of cables that I have in the garage and sure enough I didn’t have one wire that we could use. The good thing is that now that I know what goes where as far as the wiring I can get busy setting up the interior power the way I want to. So we got all of the 110v electricity going and hooked up and I will work on the 12v over the next week to get that where I want it. Im thinking a radio will be too easy to hook up to that 12v wiring and get it routed to where we can use it for radios and other 12v needs.
Fan-Tastic RV
As you know because you read this blog all the time .. we have been building an RV that was trashed. The whole interior of this RV was in pretty bad shape when we got it and we have been doing our damnedest to get it back to livable. The pictures are tell the story and you can find them on Earth Articles.com along with some other pictures of us and the camping adventures we have. It has been about a month or a little more since we started this RV project and I would say that we have come a long way since day one. I had to tear out a lot of garbage and unguided construction to get to the real base of the RVs interior. After re-gutting the RV we started putting things in their place and trying to get the RV back up to par so that we could carpet it and get to repairing the engine.
The engine ……
I took out a couple of spark plugs to see if they were reusable and they seem to be in pretty good shape except for the tarnish from the bad gas that we drove it all the way home with. Which would explain the back firing as well. Not to mention the crappy spark plug wires. I think I got the spark plug wires to stop arcing long enough to figure out where the misfire was coming from, other than the spark plug wires, and it should be an easy fix. Some clean plugs and new gas and all should be well. I also noticed that the radiator fluid was rusty and mostly water. NOT GOOD. I don’t see it leaking anywhere so I am going to pressure test the cooling system and see what gives there. .If there are no pressure drops then I will go ahead and replace the coolant with some 100K Mile Coolant.
The dash seems to be in pretty bad shape to. The physical appearance and the little issue of we are not sure if anything really works there.
All in all I think we got our moneys worth out of this deal. After we get everything hooked back up and get the gas lines and electric hooked back up I think we will be in business. Then we can sell it to the highest bidder after we take it to Dark Skies. I will post some more pics of the progress when I get it a little further along. Right now it is pretty skeleton looking but it’s getting there.
Discount Me Please
We are going shopping for some things for the RV tomorrow. I decided that we would go to Home Depot and get what we need in one place to start out with. I am going to try to get a little discount to … I don’t know for what but I am going to try. There are ways to save money. I saved money one time in Wal Mart buying food. It was amazing. I also saved money once trying to buy two Skagen watches. I told the girl that I was famous and she was ready to give me a discount.
So we are headed out as early as possible tomorrow to start our buying and pricing of RV parts and lots of wood and work. Yeah for us. We are well on our way!
It Aint Easy Being Green
Our RV renovation is coming along famously. In an effort to turn things in our lives a little more green we decided to buy a project vehicle that we could rebuild. Like the Million Dollar Man but we are going to budget and try to create a green machine. The engine is going to have to stay a gasoline engine for now unless someone donates a diesel engine and transmission that we can put in and convert to Bio Diesel.
I have been looking at places that have used timber that we can build the inside with. It is pretty bad and there is nothing in there at all. No structure what so ever. We are basically building this thing from the ground up. Well the floor up.
If there are any RV suggestions comment and let us know. We look forward to this project and will be taking pics as we go and posting them on Earth Articles. Time to rebuild this 1977 Fleetwood Southwind. Oh and if anyone has any interior pictures that show what the set up is like that would be really awesome if you could email them to us or point us to where we can see them.
